Privacy Policy for Access-a-Bible

Last Updated: July 22, 2026

Access-a-Bible ("the app") is a free web app developed by Carrie on Accessibility. This policy explains what information the app handles and how.

Summary

Access-a-Bible has no accounts, no analytics, and no advertising. Your display settings and last-read location are saved only in your browser's local storage, on your own device. To look up scripture, the app sends the reference and translation you ask for to a third-party Bible text API, which is a service outside CoA Apps' control. If you use voice commands, your browser (not CoA Apps) sends your speech to its own speech-recognition service to produce a transcript.

What Is Stored, and Where

Access-a-Bible stores your preferences and last-read location using your browser's local storage, directly on your device. This includes things like your chosen translation, color theme and mode (Dark/Light/Sepia), text size, font, spacing, reading voice and speed, sound and toolbar settings, and the last book and chapter you had open. None of this is transmitted to us or to anyone else — it stays on your device and is only used to restore your preferences the next time you open the app in the same browser.

The Bible Text API (Third Party)

Access-a-Bible does not include Bible text itself. When you request a passage, the app sends the reference and translation you asked for — for example, "John 3:16" and "kjv" — as part of a web request to a third-party Bible text service:

Only the reference and translation you're asking for are sent — never your name, location, or any other personal information. As with any web request, your device's IP address is necessarily visible to whichever of these services you're using at that moment, the same as visiting any website. These are third-party services that CoA Apps does not own, operate, or control, and each has its own privacy practices and terms governing how it handles requests it receives — this policy covers only what Access-a-Bible itself does.

Voice Commands and Text-to-Speech

The microphone button uses your browser's built-in speech recognition (in supported browsers, primarily Google Chrome) to turn what you say into text. This is handled by your browser and its speech-service provider, not by CoA Apps — we never receive or store your voice audio. The microphone is only active while you've explicitly turned it on, and it turns off automatically after you speak or after a short period of silence.

Reading passages aloud uses your browser's or device's built-in text-to-speech voices. Exactly how that speech is generated (entirely on your device, or partly using a network-based voice) depends on your browser, operating system, and which voice you've selected — this is standard behavior of your browser's speech features and is not something Access-a-Bible controls or adds to.

What We Don't Do

Your Control Over Your Data

Children's Privacy

Access-a-Bible does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect personal information from anyone at all — preferences stay on the user's own device, and lookups to the Bible text API contain only the passage reference requested.
