Privacy Policy for Mouse Reader for NVDA

Mouse Reader (“the add-on”) is an add-on for the NVDA screen reader developed by Carrie on Accessibility. It runs entirely inside NVDA on your own computer.

Summary

Mouse Reader does not collect, transmit, or store any information about you. It has no account, no sign-in, no server, and it never connects to the internet.

What Is Stored, and Where

The add-on keeps two settings inside NVDA's own configuration file, alongside NVDA's other settings: whether it is enabled, and how much a hover reads. Nothing else is written anywhere, and these settings never leave your computer.

What the Add-on Does

When you ask it to, the add-on takes a picture of the window under the mouse and has the text in it recognized by Windows' built-in OCR, which runs on your computer and does not use the internet. The picture and the recognized text are kept in memory only, for at most three minutes or until you click or press a key, and are never saved to disk or sent anywhere. The add-on does not read the content of other programs in any other way, and does not change what NVDA announces elsewhere.

What We Don't Do

• We do not collect your name, email address, location, or any other personal information.
• We do not use analytics, telemetry, or advertising of any kind.
• We do not sell or share any data, because none is ever collected in the first place.

Your Control Over Your Data

Uninstalling the add-on from NVDA's Add-on Store removes it completely. Its two settings remain in NVDA's configuration file until you reset NVDA's configuration, and have no effect once the add-on is gone.

Children's Privacy

Mouse Reader collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new "Last Updated" date.
